Women's Soccer Notches Third Win Over Arcadia 1-0 in Storm Cancellation

MADISON, NJ (September 8, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team defeated Arcadia University 1-0 in the first round of the Fall Fest at Drew College Saturday. The game was called with 19:55 left in play due to severe storms in the area.

Vassar now advances to a record of 3-0 and will face Drew University in the championship Sunday at 2:00 pm. Now 1-1-1 Arcadia will face Rutgers-Camden at noon in the consolation game. Drew defeated Arcadia 2-0.

Sophomore Chloe Wheeler got the only goal of the game when she took a shot from inside of the box, slipping the ball through to the right side of the net past Arcadia goal keeper Veroica Willig in the 31st minute.

Vassar outshot Arcadia 7-2 in the first half while both teams only had one shot each before the game was called in the second.

Senior Ali Higgins picked up her third win. She had two saves on the day while backup freshman goalie Cayla Neipris had one save in her first collegiate game.

Willig had five saves for Arcadia.
