Women's Volleyball Wins Third Straight With Sweep Over Mt. St. Vincent

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Vassar College women's volleyball team improved its record to 3-0 with a straight set victory over the College of Mount St. Vincent (25-7, 25-15, 25-16) Wednesday night at Kenyon Hall.

The Brewers got five or more kills from three different players, led by junior hitter Jessie Ditmore with six kills. Senior Brittany Stopa had five kills and a .308 attack percentage (5-1-13) and sophomore Clara Cardillo had five kills to help pace the Brewers.

The Brewers (3-0) will remain at home, hosting Stevens Institute of Technology and New York University in a tri-match at Kenyon Hall on Saturday at 11am. With the loss, Mt. St. Vincent drops to 1-1 on the season and plays at the Merchant Marine Academy on Thursday at 7:30 pm. 

The Brewers, behind the serving of junior Rose Carman, rolled to an easy 25-7 first set victory. With Carman serving the Brewers won 12 straight points, turning an 11-5 lead into a 23-6 advantage.

The second and third sets were more competitive as the Dolphins attacked the net, enabling for longer rallies. Vassar led 14-13 after junior middle block Morganne Booker earned a kill. With senior Hilary Koenigs serving, the Brewers were more efficient offensively and won seven straight points to take a comfortable 20-13 lead. Vassar was able to close out the set with kills from senior Cebe Loomis and Stopa.

The third set saw Vassar push out to an 18-9 lead, with Carman once again the serving catalyst. She had three serving aces in the match.   

Koenigs led the Brewers with 15 set assists. Freshman libero Chloe Hallum led the Brewers defensively with a new career best 16 digs.

The Dolphins were led by Booker's five kills. Sophomore libero Carly Jenkinson had a strong defensive night with 12 digs.
