Women's Volleyball Falls In Liberty League Play to Clarkson, Skidmore

SCHENECTADY, NY (September 29, 2012) -- The Vassar College women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches to Clarkson (20-25, 26-24, 18-25) and Skidmore (25-18, 16-25, 17-25, 18-25) in the second weekend of Liberty League competition in matches played at Union College.

The losses drop Vassar to 9-5, 5-3 in Liberty League play. One final weekend of Liberty League play remains on October 12-13. The Brewers return to Kenyon Hall for a home match on Wednesday evening, October 3, against Stevens Institute of Technology at 7:00 p.m.

Against Clarkson, which improved to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in league matches, Vassar got 11 kills from senior Chloe McGuire and 10 from sophomore Taylor Mosley. From her setter position, senior Hilary Koenigs had 30 set assists. Freshman Chloe Hallum had nine digs.

For Clarkson freshman Victoria Kirkemo hit .452 hitting with 16 kills against only two errors in 31 attempts. Classmate Lauren Hutchinson had a .421 hitting percentage (8-0-19). Lani Durio added in 28 assists and nine digs while Danielle Farabee contributed four blocks and Erika Chin produced 18 digs and four more assists.

After dropping the first set to the Brewers, Skidmore battled back behind 20 kills from Corinne Palmer and 40 assists from Mallory Mendelsohn.  Palmer added two blocks while Elise Finnerty tallied 10 kills and two blocks.  Carolyn Bottelier and Sam Friedman added 12 digs apiece.
 
For Vassar, McGuire had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Koenigs finished with 45 assists.
