TROY, NY (September 22, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team lost its first Liberty League matchup of their 2012 schedule to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2-1 Saturday evening.
Vassar led 1-0 at halftime, but let two goals slip by in the second half. Vassar's defense worked overtime as RPI had 28 shots with 15 of them on goal.
The loss makes Vassar 5-3, 0-1 on the season. The Brewers will next host St. Lawrence University on September 28 at 4:00 p.m. RPI, now 4-3, will next host Elmira College at 3:00 p.m. on September 28.
The Brewers got the early lead in the 30th minute of the game off a corner kick from
Sarah Bourenane that was intercepted by an RPI defender. The defender went to clear the ball from the box and sent it to the feet of Vassar's
Lucy Brainerd who shot from the top of the box to the bottom left corner.
RPI tied the game in the 56th minute off a Taylor Korytko header. RPI's Kirsten Bombardier got the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute to play.
