CANTON, NY (September 22, 20120 – With six first half goals, the St. Lawrence field hockey team broke free from the winless ranks, registering a 6-1 victory over Vassar College on Saturday afternoon in Liberty League play at Hall-Leet Field.
The host Saints, who held a 2-0 lead at the 17 minute mark, broke the game open by scoring three goals in a 4:16 span starting at the 22:24 mark and went into halftime leading 6-0. St. Lawrence had 22 first half shots, 12 on goal, and limited the Brewers to no shots.
The loss, coming off the heels of a tough 3-2 decision to No. 6 Skidmore on Friday afternoon, leaves Vassar at 4-3, 0-2. The Brewers next host Rensselaer on Wednesday, September 26 at 4:30 p.m. at Weinberg Field. St. Lawrence notches its first win to improve to 1-6, 1-1. The Saints next host hosts St. John Fisher on Tuesday, September 25 at 5 p.m.

In the first half, freshman midfielder Lizzy Steward scored three of St. Lawrence's first four goals – her first tallies of the season – and assisted on another. Junior forward Grace O'Neill had her first two goals of the season in the first half.
