Women's Soccer Finishes Husson Classic With Perfect 2-0 Record

BANGOR, ME (September 2, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team finished the last day of the 8th Annual Husson Classic with a shutout victory over Maine Maritime Academy 3-0 Sunday afternoon.

It took Vassar 14 minutes to get up on the board, and the Brewers never gave Maritime a chance to respond.

The Brewers (2-0) will travel to the Drew Tournament in Madison, NJ for a first round game against Arcadia University on Saturday the 8th. Game time is set at 3:00 pm and their final game will be on Sunday against an opponent who will be announced at a later time. Maritime will travel to the University of Maine at Machias on Wednesday for a 5:00 game.

Junior Gavriella Kaplan scored the first goal off an assist by sophomore Chole Wheeler to get the Brewers a 1-0 start. Wheeler would tack on an unassisted goal of her own near the end of the first half in the 41st minute making the score 2-0 going into halftime.

Kaplan would go on to open up the second half with another goal in the 56th minute. Senior Ali Higgins recorded the shutout with two saves which brings her record to 2-0 while Kelsie Hilton of Maritime drops to a record of 0-2. She had four saves on the day.

Vassar had 12 shots with half of them coming from Wheeler and sophomore Kelsey Domb (3 each).
