Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Loss to Stevens in Final Minutes

Box Score

HOBOKEN, NJ (September 12, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team loss to Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday night in the final two minutes to snap their winning streak of four games.

Vassar hasn't seen a 4-0 start to a season since 2002 and the loss will not allow them to see a 5-0 start as they drop to 4-1. The Brewers travel to SUNY Plattsburgh on Saturday while Stevens who are now 4-1 head to Hartwick College.

The first half remained scoreless though there were plenty of opportunities for both sides. Carly Bean of Stevens had their best chance to score off a header that hit the top of the crossbar and also off a rocket heading towards the back right of the net. Senior Ali Higgins grabbed the shot for the save. Sophomore Chloe Wheeler had the best chance for a Vassar lead off a 25-yard pass from Sarah Bourenane. Wheeler almost found the back right corner off a hard shot of her own but Stevens's Evelyn Ting made the save.

The Brewers had a scare in the first half when Higgins jumped to grab a high pass and had her legs swept out from under her. She landed hard on her side but managed to shake it off … and hold onto the ball the whole time.

Stevens broke into the scoring with a goal from Anne Heine with 1:51 left in the game with a slow-rolling shot. 30 seconds later, Stevens got their second goal by Kyle Stephens when her shot deflected into the goal off a Vassar player giving the Ducks a 2-0 win.

Higgins had six saves while facing 19 shots. Stevens's Ting had one save with facing four shots.
