POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 12, 2012) – In a physical, offense-oriented game, the Vassar College men's soccer team defeated Manhattanville College 3-1 on a cloudless Wednesday at Gordon Field.

The Brewers, now 5-1 on the season, will face Oneonta State at home on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The Manhattanville Valiants will face Drew College at home on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

Vassar stayed on the offensive throughout the game, totaling 17 shots to Manhattanville's eight, with 10 of those shots being on goal.

The team's efforts paid off when, in the 10th minute, sophomore defender Zachary Nasipak headed the ball into the far right corner of the net off a well-placed throw-in from senior defender Zander Mrlik.

Manhattanville responded less than a minute later, when defender Marco Blasetti drove into the box and passed the ball to midfielder Moshee Kelyana, who hit the ball into the left corner of the net.

Despite the setback, Vassar kept up the offensive pressure, and broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when junior midfielder Adrien Demelier made a stunning run from center field, beating several defenders to set up a perfectly placed shot from junior defender Evan Seltzer, who buried the ball into the back of the net.

The Brewers widened the gap in the 31st minute, when senior forward Casey Rice played a leading ball across to Adrien Demelier, who drove into the box before slotting the ball in the lower right corner.

Junior goalkeeper Ryan Grimme had only one save in the win, while Manhattanville keeper Willie Silber had seven saves.
