Three Solo Goals Help Field Hockey Upend Keystone College 3-2

Box Score

SCRANTON, PA (September 11, 2012) –  The Vassar College field hockey team got three unassisted goals from three different players and employed a scrappy defensive game to defeat Keystone College 3-2 in a non-league contest at Riverfront Sports Complex in Scranton on Tuesday evening.

Backed by goals by sophomore Enya Cunningham and junior Elisabeth Raskoff, the Brewers took a 2-0 lead early in the second half. After Keystone closed the gap to 2-1, junior Cameron Felt scored the game winner with 11 minutes to play.

With the victory, the Brewers improve to 3-1 on the season and will return home on Friday, September 15, with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Mercy College. Keystone College drops to 0-2 and will travel to Albright College for a game this Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

“It was a very scrappy game, but we kept our composure and stayed with our game plan,” said head coach Cara Reese.

Felt scored Vassar's third goal with 11 minutes to play and Keystone made the game hotly contested when Hope Krolewski scored her second goal of the game with nine minutes remaining.

In a game when only 17 shots were taken (11 by Vassar), it was the Brewer defense that kept the Giants in check. Junior goalie Maggie Brelis was protected against shots, having to make only two saves in earning her third victory of the season.

Scranton goalie Amy Denmon made three saves in the loss.
