GENEVA, NY (April 30, 2012) – The ITA national No. 22 Skidmore College men's tennis team won its second consecutive Liberty League Championship with a 5-1 win over a Vassar College team hampered by injury on Monday.
The Thoroughbreds won two of three doubles matches and clinched the decision with three singles points.
The Northeast No. 11 Brewers (14-10, 4-1 Liberty) and the Thoroughbreds (11-6) hope to return to the NCAA Division III Championships this May.
With a shuffled lineup, Vassar won its lone point at No. 3 doubles as
Josh Kessler and
Wilson Platt teamed up for an 8-5 win over Luke Granger and Max Bevan.
Leading 2-1 at the break, Oliver Loutsenko picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over
Andrew Guzick at No. 1 singles to put Skidmore up 3-1. Miles Ransom won 7-6 (9-7), 6-0 over Kessler at No. 4 singles and Danny Knight clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Platt at No. 5 singles.
The Brewers reached their eighth consecutive Liberty League Championship title match.
