Herzog Sinks Five Three-Pointers In Win Over CCNY

Herzog got 15 of his 17 points from beyond the three-point line.

NEW YORK, NY (December 2, 2012) – Five Brewers hit double-digit scoring in their 88-77 win over the City College of New York Sunday afternoon.

Senior guard Jon Herzog led the scoring effort with 17 points. Sophomore forward Alex Snyder followed with 16 points and ten rebounds for his fifth double-double.

The Brewers (3-2) will next travel to Riverdale, NY to play College of Mount St. Vincent Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The Beavers (3-4) will next host Wilkes University on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.

The only points that didn't come from beyond the arc for Herzog came off a pair of free throws. Sophomore forward Luka Ladan had 15 points, junior forward Evan Carberry hit for 14 points from the bench and sophomore guard Curtis Smith added another 11 points. Junior forward John Donnelly pulled down ten rebounds.

Smith hit a pair of free throws within the first minute of play to give Vassar the early lead. CCNY responded with a three-pointer from David Solano in the same minute for the Beavers' only lead of the game. Herzog hit his first of five three-pointers for the final lead change of the game as the Brewers went up 5-3.

Donnelly scored off a fast break layup with less than a minute in the first half to give the Brewers their biggest lead of the day 48-23. CCNY's Nathan Lopez hit a three to bring the score to 48-26 going into halftime.

Vassar kept its lead above 20 points for the first six minutes of the second half. The Brewers and Beavers exchanged baskets back and forth throughout the second half with CCNY chipping away at the Vassar lead. CCNY managed to bring the Brewer lead down to ten in three separate instances but could not stop the Brewer offense.

The Brewers hit 30 of 60 field goals and shot 55.6 percent from the arc. CCNY shot 73.3 percent from the line.
