Swim-Dive Faces Liberty League RPI On Saturday at Kresge Pool

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (Nov. 2) -- The Vassar College men's and women's swimming and diving teams will continue competition against Liberty League opponents, as the Brewers host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, November 10 at Kresge Pool at 1:00 p.m.

A brief inside look at Saturday's meet against RPI:

Vassar Women's Notes: The Brewers (2-1) The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team won ten events in their first home dual meet of the season with a commanding 175-125 win over Skidmore College Saturday at Kresge Pool.

Senior co-captain Shannon Sara won three of her four events with first place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.67), 200 yard individual medley (2:17.61) and teamed with Maryam Pourmaleki, Lilliana Frye and Millee Nelson in the 200 yard medley relay (1:57.62). For her efforts, Sara was the Liberty League Performer of the Week. Jane Cardona swept the diving events with a pair of first place wins scoring 200.32 on the one-meter board and 220.95 on the three-meter. She earned Liberty League Diver of the Week honors.

Senior co-captain Sydnie Alquist won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.01 and had two third place finishes in the 200 free (2:04.78) and 50 free (27.09). Fullerton and Robin Lam finished the sweep of the 100 fly with Fullerton in second (1:05.38) and Lam in third (1:06.17) for seven more points.

Vassar Men's Notes: The Brewers (0-3) The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team stepped up and challenged Skidmore College in Vassar's first home meet of the 2012-13 season despite falling 163-123 to the Thoroughbreds.

Matt Weiss and Isaiah Hale teamed up in the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard breaststroke to add 26 points to the team total. Weiss won the 100 (1:03.97) while Hale took second (1:07.05) and Hale won the 200 (2:28.28) while Weiss took second (2:29.14).

RPI Women's Notes: The Engineers (1-1) competed at the New England Swimming and Diving Invitational last Saturday.

Mairead Lyons won the 100-buttefly in 1:00.02 and finished third in both the 200-freestyle (201.71) and the 50-butterfly (28.13). She was also fourth in the 100-freestyle 56.27. RPI's 200-medly relay team placed third. Maddie Miller placed second off the one-meter diving board and third off the three-meter. Margaret Cullather took second off the three-meter board.

RPI Men's Notes: The Engineers (1-1)  competed at the New England Swimming and Diving Invitational last Saturday.
On the men's side, Dan Messmer helped the Engineers to a second-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay. He was on RPI's 100-freestyle relay team that finished third. Ben Lerose took second in both the 100-butterfly (53.25) and 100-backstroke (56.03). He was also third in the 50-butterfly (24.38).
