NEW PALTZ, NY (November 17, 2012) – With the Liberty League Championships on the horizon, the Vassar College men's swimming team competed favorably on Saturday against SUNY New Paltz. Despite a 137-70 loss, the Brewers had several strong efforts.

Although out-numbered roster-wise against the Hawks, the Brewers bound together and raced with a strong focus.

“The guys who swam today really pulled together and competed and that's all we can ask,” said head coach Lisl Prater Lee. “Our guys did the best they could and I feel like the team is settling into a good momentum for the Liberty League Championships.”

Charles Hermann was a stalwart for Vassar, finishing second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.02), which is close to a season best.

The 100 Breaststroke was particularly strong, placing first, second and fourth with Matthew Weiss (1:04.01), Lucas Amodio (1:04.52) and Isaiah Hale (1:09.30) leading a fast corps.

Amodio was a winner in the 100 Freestyle (50.42)

Senior Mathue Duhaney continued to show that he is one of the strongest 50 Free swimmers in the region, taking top honors in 23.20.

The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (Amodio, Hale, Duhaney, Hermann) took top honors in 1:32.60.

After a week of training, Vassar will compete at the Liberty League Championships at the University of Rochester on November 31-December 1.
