Men's Swimming Shows Continued Growth Despite Loss To RPI

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 10, 2012) – Competing against one of the premier men's swim-dive programs in the Liberty League, the Vassar team continued to show steady growth in a 177-99 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon at Kresge Pool.

In the meet, Vassar got a first place effort from senior Mathue Duhaney is the 100 Free (50.83).

Vassar (0-4) will race next Saturday, November 10 at SUNY New Paltz at 1:00 p.m. RPI improves to 2-1 and will host Hartwick next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

“RPI has a long tradition and strong men's team, perhaps one of the top three in the Liberty League,” said head coach Lisl Prater Lee. “I do feel like our men are coming together as a team and the results will be a by-product of that. They're showing resiliency.”

Duhaney placed second in the 100 Yard Butterfly (58.81). Senior Nick Veazie won the 100 Yard Butterfly (58.47) and freshman Greg Cristina was second in the 50 Free. (23.54).

Other highlights for Vassar included:
  • First place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:34.48)
  • Third place in the 200 Yard Medley (1:42.07).
  • Sophomore Luc Amodio finished first in the 200 Yard IM (2:11.63) and placed second in the 100 Yard Backstroke (57.60) and 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:21.89).
