After losing the championship match to Wellesley last year, the Brewers regained the title that they last won in 2009. The victory improved Vassar to 14-5 on the season and was only Wellesley's second loss of the season (20-2). It was accomplished by a .372 team attack percentage (66-11-148). Beside Pitre's effort (18-2-28), sophomore
Clara Cardillo was stellar with a 12 kill, two error match (.417), earning her a spot on the All-Seven Sisters team. Senior
Chloe McGuire contributed 14 kills with only three miscues. Junior
Jessie Ditmore added a 66 team kill effort with 14 and senior
Brittany Stopa didn't make an error in earning her eight kills. Wellesley hit .207 for the match and got 17 kills from Sydney Carfagno. Three players led a strong defensive surge. Freshman
Chloe Hallum had 20 digs, Ditmore had 11 and McGuire 10, earning both of those players a match double-double.
In Sunday's first match, the Brewers got a pair of six kill efforts from Stopa and fellow senior
Cebe Loomis to sweep past Mount Holyoke 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-9) . Loomis was particularly efficient, hitting .857 for the match. Stopa made only one attack error and hit .455. As a team, the Brewers hit .466 and made only four attack errors in three sets.
The setting duties were shared by Koenigs and junior
Rose Carman, who had 12 and 11 respectively. Led by eight digs from Hallum, the Brewers limited Mount Holyoke to a .088 attack game.
Vassar returns to Liberty League play visiting Bard College on Wednesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.
