McGuire Breaks 1,000 Kills At Seven Sisters Championships

BRYN MAWR, PA (October 6, 2012) – Vassar College women's volleyball senior Chloe McGuire broke 1,000 kills Saturday afternoon at the Seven Sisters Championships with 3-0 sweeps against Bryn Mawr (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) and Smith College (25-16, 25-11, 25-12).

McGuire was four kills short of the 1,000 career kills going into the match against Bryn Mawr. McGuire recorded seven kills each in both matches. She stands at 1,010 kills in her collegiate career.

The Brewers advance to a record of 12-5 after the two wins and will next face Mount Holyoke at 9 am and Wellesley at 11:30 am tomorrow morning for the final day of the Seven Sisters Championships. Smith will next face Wellesley while Bryn Mawr takes on Mount Holyoke tomorrow.

Senior Brittany Stopa had 10 kills with a .643 average in the first match against Bryn Mawr. Sophomore Clara Cardillo followed with nine kills and a .727 average with McGuire's seven kills right behind her.

Avary Taylor of Bryn Mawr led with 21 assists while Hannah Rosebrock led with nine kills.

The second game of the match proved to be the closest of the day for the Brewers with Bryn Mawr nipping at the heels of Vassar 25-22. Freshman Chloe Hallum led a strong defense with 13 digs while senior Hilary Koenigs recorded 25 assists.

Cardillo recorded another 10 kills in the match against Smith. Junior Jessie Ditmore and sophomore Marie Pitre both added another nine kills in the match. Hallum added another 14 digs against Smith.
