POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 6, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team succumbed to Skidmore College 1-0 on a cloudy Saturday at Gordon Field in a physical, competitive 90 minutes of Liberty League action.
The victory was Skidmore's second win of the season and first win in Liberty League play.
Vassar narrowly outshot Skidmore (18-13), but could not find the goal they needed in the back-and-forth game. The Brewers, now 8-4 (3-2 Liberty League) will travel to Geneva, NY to face William Smith College on Friday, October 12 at 4 pm. The Skidmore Thoroughbreds, now 2-7-1 (1-3-1 Liberty League), will travel to Annandale-on-Hudson to face Bard College on Sunday, October 7 at 2:00 pm.
Vassar controlled the first half with consistent offense and rock-solid defense, tallying 10 shots while allowing only four shots from the Thoroughbreds. The best chance of the half for the Brewers came in the 30th minute, when sophomore midfielder

The game remained scoreless deep into the second half until the deadlock was broken by a Skidmore goal in the 70th minute. Skidmore defender Rebecca Russo sent a long ball past the defense to Thoroughbreds' midfielder Michelle Finan, who turned and sent a hard shot into the far right side of the net to give the Thoroughbreds the game-winning goal.

Ali Higgins had two saves in the loss for the Brewers, while Skidmore goalkeeper Gab Lawrence had eight saves in the victory.
