Results vs. Bard
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY/ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (October 6, 2012) – The Vassar College men's tennis team swept Union College 9-0 Saturday afternoon in their first dual match of the season and Bard College 9-0 in the evening dual match.
Vassar traveled to Bard College at Annandale-on-Hudson, NY immediately after the dual match with Union for their second Liberty League dual match of the season. Not a single tie-breaker was required at Bard.
The Brewers now have a record of 2-0 and will next host Skidmore College on February 23, 2013 to start their Spring season.
"Having two dual matches in one day and when one is away is tough," head coach John Cox said. "We basically relied on the backs of our veteran upperclassmen and our freshmen stepped up to meet today's challenge."
Josh Kessler and
Christian Phelps defeated their opponents by the biggest margins during the Union match. Both won with scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Andrew Guzick defeated Union's T.J. Moor in a close 7(2)-6, 7(2)-6 match.
Nick Jasso defeated Anthony Laurencio during his 6-3, 7-5 win.
Guzick and
Daniel Cooper defeated Moor and Grant Zaccareo in doubles competition 8-2.
Dan Freeman had the closest match of the evening against Bard's Kevin McDonald. Freeman won 6-4, 6-4. Guzick, Cooper,
Evan Udine,
Sha Huang and
Christian Lyon all had singles matches where they had shutout-sets.
Freeman and Udine defeated Bard's Philip Poznansky and Ted Laport 8-0 in doubles play to lead Vassar.
