POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 3, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team extended their Liberty League winning streak Wednesday evening at Gordon Field with a 2-0 win against Bard College.
Sophomore
Chloe Wheeler recorded another game-winning goal and her eighth goal of the season.
The Brewers have a record of 8-3 with a Liberty League record of 3-1. Vassar will next host Skidmore College on Saturday, October 6 at 2 pm. Saturday's game is also the Brewers' Burgundy and Gray Day. Bard College drops to a record of 4-7-1 (0-1-1 LL) and will next travel to Union College on October 6 as well.
Wheeler got her goal in the 16th minute of play when freshman forward
Kamaria Coley sent a behind-the-back pass across the goal to a wide-open Wheeler. Wheeler's blast ricocheted off a Bard defender's body, up and over the top of Bard's Lena James.
Sophomore
Kim Kogler stole a ball from deep within the Bard box during the 59th minute. Despite the ball nearly going out of bounds, Kogler saved it from a goal kick, and sent a long cross to sophomore forward
Kelsey Domb at the top of the box. Domb took a 180 degree turn, and scored the Brewers' second goal of the evening.
The Brewers outshot the Raptors 17-10, with eight of them being on goal.
Senior goal keeper
Ali Higgins recorded the win for the Brewers, making her 8-3 for the season. Higgins did not have a shot on goal against her in the first half. Freshman
Emma Nichols came into goal at the start of the second half and recorded two saves.
Bard's James had six saves in goal.
