Women's Soccer Loses 2-1 In Overtime To Union; Finishes With Winning Record

SCHENECTADY, NY (October 27, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team finished their 2012 season with a winning record despite a 2-1 overtime loss to Liberty League opponent Union College Saturday afternoon.

In her last game as a Brewer, senior goalkeeper Ali Higgins added 12 saves to her impressive career.

The Brewers finish their season with a winning record of 9-7-1, and 3-5 in the Liberty League. Union finishes its regular season with a 14-2 overall record and 6-2 in the Liberty League. Union will next travel to RPI on October 31 for a semifinal game in the Liberty League Championships.

Freshman Kamaria Coley scored her third goal of the season after freshman Lucy Brainerd took a crossing shot from the left side that hit the right post. Coley gave Vassar a 1-0 lead when she tipped the deflection into the net.

Union's Whitney Bickford tied the game in the 77th minute off a 25 yard free kick. Union clinched the win when Mollie Gilchrist sent a through ball to Jennifer Mansfield up the field. Mansfield beat Higgins in the one-on-one situation for the win.

Union outshot Vassar 27-17. Union's Kayla Marti finished the game with four saves.
