Anna Schroeder scored on a penalty stroke to keep the Vassar College field hockey team tied with Union College in the first half, but the host Dutchwoman scored both second half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over the Brewers at Frank Bailey Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Brewers were limited to just four shots in the game, while Union had 23, a decided advantage in the contest.
Vassar finishes the season with a 7-9 record, 0-6 in the Liberty League. Union concludes its season at 8-9, 2-4.
Playing in her final game, Union senior forward Caroline Moran scored all three goals for the Dutchwomen. She had seven of Union's 12 shots on goal.
Moran opened the scoring just 5:33 into the contest, when she scored on an unassisted tally. Her drive was a backhander that found the right of the net from nine yards out. Schroeder notched her sixth of the season at 19:44. She was awarded a penalty stroke and converted to tie the contest at 1-1, which held up at halftime.
Union's Hannah Najar took a corner for Union and at 36:22, Moran took the feed from straight out in front of the Vassar cage and slapped home her second of the day for the eventual game winner (which would be her third game winning goal of the year). At 65:50, Laura Pacheco fed Moran in the middle and the senior completed the hat trick from seven yards out for the eventual 3-1.
