Men's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 2-0 Victory Over Hunter

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 20, 2012) – The Vassar College men's soccer team defeated Hunter College 2-0 as the Brewers celebrated seven seniors during pregame ceremonies Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field.

Seniors Gary Clauss, Nick Kilmarx, Zander Mrlik, Simon Whitelaw, Dante Varotsis, Casey Rice and Eric Geisse were the subjects of today's pregame ceremonies. Family, friends, coaches and their teammates celebrated their careers at Vassar College.

The win makes the Brewers 9-4-2 and drops Hunter College to a record of 2-13-2. Vassar will next host Union College on Wednesday, October 24 at 3 pm in a highly anticipated Liberty League matchup. Today's game was the last for Hunter College this season.

Junior Juliano Pereira got the first goal in the second minute when Mrlik sent a pass from the right side of the box towards the top left corner. Pereira redirected the pass into the left side of the net for the game-winning goal.

Varotsis scored the game's second goal in the 17th minute when Pereira sent a through ball up the middle to Varotsis who swerved through the Hunter defenders and took a low shot for the 2-0 lead.

Clauss recorded one save in the win which brought his record to 2-2. Hunter's Zade Haobsh recorded 13 saves. Vassar outshot Hunter 35-4.
