Women's Volleyball Hosts Stevens, Then Heads to Seven Sisters

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 2, 2012) – Returning home to Kenyon Hall for the first time since September 18, the Vassar College women's volleyball team will host Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, October 3 at 7 pm at Keynon Hall.  The Stevens match will celebrate Burgundy & Grey Day, where students are encouraged to wear Vassar school colors to the contest.

After the Stevens match, Vassar will head to Bryn Mawr for the Seven Sisters Championships. Last year, the Brewers lost in the championship to Wellesley 18-25, 14-25, 20-25. Vassar won the 2009 title with a 3-0 win over Wellesley, 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.

Vassar College Notes (9-5)
  • PRIOR MATCHES (9/29): The Brewers finished their Liberty League weekend play 2-2, with wins over Union College (3-0) and St. Lawrence University (3-1) on Friday, and losses to Clarkson University (0-3) and Skidmore College (1-3) on Saturday. Vassar is now 9-5 on the season, 5-3 in the Liberty League.
  • Sophomore Taylor Mosley led the Brewers in kills against St. Lawrence with a career best 19 with only 4 errors for a hitting percentage of .441.
  • Against Skidmore, senior Chloe McGuire recorded a double-double, with 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior setter Hilary Koenigs continued her strong play with 45 set assists, accounting for 143 assists over the four matches of the weekend.
  • Freshman libero Chloe Hallum led the defensive effort with 17 digs against St. Lawrence.
  • The Brewers' first meeting with the Ducks this season on 9/8 resulted with a Vassar victory 3-1 (25-22, 30-32, 25-21, 25-21).

Stevens Notes (7-12)
  • PRIOR MATCHES (9/29): The Ducks finished their weekend Ducks Invite 3-1, with wins over Polytechnic Institute of New York University (3-0), the United States Coast Guard Academy (3-2), and Elmira (3-2), and a loss to Baruch College (2-3).
  • After a 0-9 start to the season, Stevens has turned its season around, going 7-3 over the last 10 matches.
  • Freshman outside hitter Annemarie Thomas was selected as the Empire 8 Conference's top rookie performer this week after recording 38 kills in her last five matches.
  • After tonight's match, the Ducks will meet Elmira College again on Friday at 4:30 pm in Hoboken.
