POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 19, 2012) – The Vassar College field hockey withstood an onslaught of early Rochester pressure to take a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the visiting Yellowjackets scored three goals in just under six minutes of the second half to defeat the Brewers 3-1 in Liberty League action on Friday afternoon at Weinberg Field.
With the victory, Rochester (13-3, 4-1) clinched one of the four playoffs spots in the Liberty League Championships. Vassar drops to 7-6, 0-4. The Brewers will host William Smith on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and honor graduating seniors

Led by a packed in defense, the Brewers kept an offensive-minded Rochester team off the scoreboard in the first half, and capitalized on a nifty goal by senior midfielder

Cameron Felt at the 23 minute mark to take a 1-0 lead. Smith scored her team-leading 7th goal when she adeptly placed a Felt pass just inside the circle and past Rochester junior goalie Madison Wagner, who otherwise made four saves in the game.
The Yellowjackets came out in the second half with vengeance, rifling off 20 of their 30 shots in the half. At the 35:59 mark, Rochester had a chance to even the game at 1-1, earning a penalty shot following a defensive save by Vassar that was touched by a hand. Freshman Michelle Relin launched a solid shot, but it was brilliantly saved by Vassar junior goalie
Maggie Brelis, who had 13 saves in the contest.
Rochester's pressure would eventually pay off. Senior forward Shelby Hall scored back-to-back goals (her 15th and 16th of the season) at the 37 and 40 minute marks to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead. Junior midfielder Katie Flaschner pushed the lead to 3-1 with 27 minutes to play, scoring her goal off a rebounded save by Brelis.
Rochester led in penalty corners 11-2.
