Women's Volleyball Topples RIT In Five-Set Liberty League Thriller

Sophomore Clara Cardillo had 11 kills and hit .427 for the Brewers.

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON (October 13, 2012) –  For the second time in three matches, the Vassar College women's volleyball team battled a Liberty League opponent in a marathon five-setter, and on Saturday morning the Brewers prevailed with a 3-2 victory (25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-13) over RIT at Bard College.

The Brewers improve to 17-6, 8-4, and conclude Liberty League play. During Fall Break, Vassar will travel to the Elmhurst (Ill.) Tournament next Friday and Saturday. In opening play, the Brewers will face Haverford at 2:00 pm and North Park University at 6:00 pm.

In a match with plenty of action, four players had nine or more kills. That group was headed by senior Chloe McGuire and sophomore Clara Cardillo with 11 kills each. Junior Jessie Ditmore and sophomore Marie Pitre had nine in the match. Cardillo was particularly effective, hitting .427 for the match with only two attack errors.

Senior Hilary Koenigs had 40 set assists, earning her 40 or more in two of the last three matches. Freshman defensive stalwart Chloe Hallum had 20 digs, fresh off her 29-dig effort against Union College on Friday evening.
