POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 13, 2012) – The Vassar men's soccer team battled Rochester Institute of Technology in a physical Liberty League game to a 1-1 double overtime tie.

Senior Zander Mrlik got his third goal of the season in what proved to be a heated game with a total of four yellow cards being given out.

The tie puts the Brewers' record at 8-4-2, 3-1-2 as they next host Hunter College on October 20 for Senior Day at 2:30 pm. The Tigers are now 8-4-1, 3-2-1 and will next travel to Pittsford, NY to face St. John Fisher at 7 pm on October 17.

Mrlik's goal came from freshman Jordan Palmer on a corner kick in the 18th minute. The kick sailed from the left side of the field to the right side of the box where Mrlik jumped to head the ball in the bottom left corner of the net.

The score became tied when RIT's Danny Bloshkin sent a curved shot off his corner kick. The ball tipped off a Vassar defender for a team, own goal tying the game up at one apiece.

Junior goalkeeper Ryan Grimme had one save today while RIT's Sean Conway had five saves and defender Jimmy Forbes had one defensive save.

RIT outshot Vassar 13-12 but Vassar managed more shots on goal 7-2.
