Women's Volleyball Sweeps Past Bard for 6th Straight Win

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (October 10, 2012) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team ran its win streak to six matches with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-14) sweep over Bard College in Liberty League play on Wednesday night.

In similar fashion to the first meeting between the two schools, Vassar controlled play in each of the sets. In the first set, the Brewers led 13-1 and cruised from there. The second set win was a start to finish victory. In the third set, Bard went up 2-0, Vassar edged ahead 11-4. The Raptors closed to 16-13, but the Brewers won nine of the last 10 points for the win.

The victory improves Vassar to 15-5, 6-3 in the Liberty League. Bard drops to 5-15, 0-9. On Friday, Vassar will host Liberty League crossover play, hosting Skidmore at 5:00 pm and Union at 7:30 pm. Bard will face Rochester Institute of Technology at Vassar at 5:00 pm.

As a team, Vassar hit .450 for the match. Senior Brittany Stopa led the Brewers with nine kills and a .562 attack percentage. Sophomore's Clara Cardillo and Marie Pitre each had six kills. Senior Christina Verdirame had a season best five kills.

Junior Rose Carman had eight set assists. The defensive game was led by junior Jessie Ditmore who had seven digs. Four other Vassar players had five digs.
