Women's Swim-Dive Downed 178-114 By Trinity

HARTFORD, CT (January 12, 2012) -- The Vassar  College women's swimming and diving team returned from a winter hiatus and stumbled 178-114 against Trinity College on Thursday.

“They competed well today and did what they could do,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. “We'll have some time off and then go for the Seven Sisters.”

The Brewers (2-3) next compete in the Seven Sisters Championships from January 20-22 at Smith College.

Vassar had a one-two finish in the 1000-yard freestyle as Allison Burns turned in a season-best time of 11:10.63 and Olivia Harries followed in 11:10.68. “They swam very well together,” said Prater-Lee.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Vassar swept the top three spots with Shannon Sara finishing first in 2:03.30, Sydnie Alquist taking second in 2:05.92, and Hayley Lemoine taking third in 2:07.12.

McKenzie Quinn posted a season-best time of 1:13.40 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Vassar took first and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke as Lizzy Balter had a come-from-behind win in 2:25.64, followed by Lily Doyle in 2:33.21.

In the 3-meter diving event, Amelia Couture placed 3rd with 217.80 points and Jane Cardona was 4th with 197.77 points.
