Volleyball Drops Two Five-Setters in League Play, Bavosa Reaches 1,000 Career Kills

The senior hitter became the 8th player in school history to reach 1,000 kills.

POTSDAM, NY (September 30, 2011) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team continued its Liberty League schedule on Friday night, dropping a pair of hard-fought five set matches to Skidmore 3-2 (22-25, 25-14, 8-25, 25-17, 13-15) and host Clarkson 3-2 (19-25, 25-18, 11-25, 25-22, 6-15).

With 25 total kills in two matches on Friday night, senior hitter Amy Bavosa reached 1,000 for a career, becoming the 8th player in school history to reach that milestone. Bavosa had 17 kills against Skidmore and eight against Clarkson. She earned her 1,000th kill early in the second set against Clarkson, and now has 1,004 for her career.

The Brewers, 9-7, 3-3, will head to St. Lawrence on Saturday for continuing Liberty League matches against Union at 11 am and St. Lawrence at 3:00 pm.

In the opener against Skidmore, Bavosa added 10 digs to her 17 kill match. Freshman hitter Marie Pitre had 10 kills with two errors on 18 attempts. Junior setter Hilary Koenigs had 42 of the teams 44 assists.

In the second straight five set match played on Friday against Clarkson, junior hitter Chloe McGuire led the way with 15 kills, followed by Bavosa's eight and seven from sophomore Jessie Ditmore. Koenigs had 29 set assists. Sophomore Aoife Feighery set a new personal best with 22 digs in the match, followed by Ditmore's 14 digs.

With the victory, the Golden Knights improved to 19-1, 6-0.
