Bavosa Named All-Classic, Brewers Split Matches At Cortland

CORTLAND, NY (September 3, 2011) -- Senior hitter Amy Bavosa was named to the 27th Cortland Red Dragon All-Classic Team as the Vassar College women's volleyball team split matches played against Richard Stockton and Ithaca on Saturday.

In Vassar's opening match played in the Gold Pool, the Brewers (2-2) fell to Richard Stockton 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-17). Vassar rebounded with a 3-0 sweep against Ithaca, winning 25-20, 25-20, 25-19.

The Brewers will next host the annual VC Invitational played at the Athletics & Fitness Center next Friday and Saturday, September 9-10.

In the victory over Ithaca, sophomore Jessie Ditmore led the way with 10 kills. Junior Cebe Loomis continued her effective attack game with nine kills and a .471 attack percentage. Bavosa had nine kills. Junior Hilary Koenigs had 36 of Vassar's 38 set assists. Bavosa and Ditmore led the defensive effort with nine and six digs respectively and sophomore newcomer Aoife Feighery had five digs.

Bavosa and junior Chloe McGuire had seven kills each against Richard Stockton in Saturday's morning match. McGuire added a team-best ten digs and sophomore Megan Anderson chipped in with a career-best seven digs. Koenigs had 24 set assists.
