Volleyball Sweeps Bard, Preps For Big Liberty League Weekend

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (September 28, 2011) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team improved to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in Liberty League play, with a 25-7, 25-14, 25-8 victory over Bard College on Wednesday evening.

The Brewers next head into a big weekend of league competition with matches against Skidmore and Clarkson on Friday night at Clarkson starting at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Brewers will face Union and St. Lawrence in matches played at St. Lawrence.

The Raptors, newcomers to the Liberty League this season, played a spirited second set, and took a brief 13-11 lead in a set that was tied nine times. After 13-13, the Brewers won the next 12 of 13 points to claim the most competitive of the three sets played. Bard, now 3-10 on the season, travels to the North Country to face the same opponents as Vassar, starting with Union on Friday night.

Vassar got a 10 kill outing from senior hitter Amy Bavosa, seven from junior hitter Chloe McGuire and five each from sophomore  hitter Jessie Ditmore and freshman hitter Marie Pitre, who was named the Liberty League co-Rookie of the Week on Monday. Junior setter Hilary Koenigs had 21 set assists.

The Brewers had 50 digs in the match, led by sophomore Meghan Anderson with nine and Koenigs with nine as well. Ditmore added eight digs.
