Volleyball Downs RIT In Liberty League Opener, 3-1

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (September, 21, 2011) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team opened its Liberty League season with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18) victory over Rochester Institute of Technology in a match played at Bard College late Friday night.

Vassar was led by senior Amy Bavosa who had 14 kills and junior Chloe McGuire with 11 kills. Sophomore Jessie Ditmore added eight and freshman Marie Pitre chipped in with six. Junior setter Hilary Koenigs orchested the offensive attack with 35 of Vassar's 38 set assists.

On the defensive end, Bavosa added to her offensive effort with 19 digs. Ditmore earned 15 and Pitre had 13. In total, Vassar had 82 digs, a key statistic in the four set victory over RIT.

The Brewers (7-4), will continue Liberty League play on Saturday, September 24 at the Athletics & Fitness Center. Vassar will face St. Lawrence at 11:00 a.m. and Clarkson at 1:30 p.m.
