Women's Soccer Back On Track With 3-1 Win Over NYU

Sophomore Sheeva Seyfi scored her first goal of the season.

RIVERDALE, NY (September 16, 2011) – The Vassar College women's soccer team regrouped from consecutive overtime losses with a convincing 3-1 win over New York University on Friday afternoon at Gaelic Park.

After allowing a goal in the fourth minute, the Brewers tightened their defense and unleashed their offense with three unanswered goals.

The Brewers (3-3) host Elms College on Saturday, September 16, at 2:00 p.m. The Violets (3-1) face FDU-Florham on the road on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

NYU held the lead for two minutes until the 6th minute when Vassar freshman Kelsey Domb scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season on a one-bounce cross from senior captain Tessa Verbanic.

Vassar freshman Chloe Wheeler gave Vassar the lead as she flicked a pass from classmate Sarah Bourenane into far right corner for a goal in the 27th minute. Wheeler contributed on Vassar's final goal as she assisted sophomore Sheeva Seyfi for her first goal of the season in 51st minute.

Serra Tumay scored NYU's lone goal.

Vassar freshman Lily Lanier made seven saves in relief of Ali Higgins to earn the win while NYU's Meg Patten notched five saves in the loss.
