PURCHASE, NY (September 10, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's soccer team erupted for three first half goals en route to a 4-0 win over Baruch College in its final game of the Valiant Classic on Saturday.
Vassar distributed its offense with goals from four different players as freshman
Tom Wiechert and seniors
Ross Macklin and
Eli London each netted their first goals of the season. The Brewers played much of the game in Baruch's half of the field and held an18-6 shot advantage.
The Brewers (3-1-1) host cross-river rival SUNY New Paltz on Tuesday, September 13, at 4:00 p.m. at Gordon Field. The Bearcats (2-3) play Lehman College at home on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
Freshman
Logan Matheny opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute on a cross from Wiechert to put Vassar ahead 1-0.
Soon after, junior
Dante Varotsis played a ball inside the 18-yard box where Weichert ran onto it and buried it low into the corner for Vassar's second goal.
London added a goal shortly before halftime and Macklin scored midway through the second half.
Sophomore
Ryan Grimme posted the shutout for Vassar.
