Men's Tennis Advances to Liberty League Finals With 9-0 Win Over Hobart

CANTON, NY (April 30, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team advanced to its seventh consecutive Liberty League Championship with a hard-fought 9-0 sweep of Hobart College on Saturday at Newell Field House.

The Brewers (10-9) look to defend their title against Skidmore College on Sunday, May 1, at 10:00 a.m. Skidmore and Vassar have played for six of the past seven Liberty League Championships. The ITA No. 30 ranked Skidmore defeated Vassar 7-2 during the regular season.

After three competitive doubles wins, Vassar sealed the victory with a quick pair of singles points as Andrew Guzick rolled 6-0, 6-0 over Bruce Grant at No. 1 singles. Josh Jasso clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kevin Bates at No. 5 singles.

After the decision, three matches went to third set super tiebreakers.
