WHITTIER, CA (March 8, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team knocked off its second nationally ranked opponent in three matches with a 6-3 victory over Whittier College.

The Brewers (6-2) square off against No. 7 ranked Kenyon College on Wednesday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m. The Poets (3-2) return to action on Saturday afternoon against Sewanee at 2:00 p.m. 

Vassar started off with a crucial sweep of doubles for a 3-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, junior Ben Guzick and senior Joshua Jasso teamed up for an 8-5 win over Julian Seneviratne and Patricio Carregha. Sophomore Andrew Guzick and senior Max Willner cruised 8-4 over Chris Schommer and Andrew Hansen. The sophomore tandem of Josh Kessler and Kartik Kapoor withstood a comeback bid by Taylor Dimler and Frank Sun but held on for the 9-7 win.

The Brewers clinched the match early into singles play with quick wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. The No. 7 nationally ranked Andrew Guzick raced for a 6-2, 6-1 win over Carregha at No. 2. Willner rallied for a 7-6⁶, 6-4 victory over Schommer.
