Match Results

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 28, 2011) – The Vassar College men's tennis team snapped a five-match skid with a 9-0 sweep of Drew University Monday evening at Walker Field House.

“I was really happy with how we came out and stayed focused to win 9-0 against a team we beat 5-4 last year,” said head coach John Cox.

The ITA No. 29 nationally ranked Brewers (7-7) host the No. 2 ranked Amherst College on Saturday, April 2, at 11:00 a.m. The Rangers (4-4) host Stevens on Wednesday, March 30, at 4:30 p.m.

Vassar opened the match with a convincing 3-0 sweep of doubles. Junior Ben Guzick and senior captain Josh Jasso cruised 8-2 over Raul Smego and Djedyj Hill at No. 1 doubles. Senior Max Willner and sophomore Andrew Guzick rolled 8-3 over Alex Belfiore and Matt Brisotti at the No. 2 spot. The sophomore duo of Josh Kessler and Dan Freeman coasted 8-1 over Elliot Smego and Adam Gerber.

In singles, Andrew Guzick raced for a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Belfiore at No. 2 singles for the fourth point. Jasso clinched the victory with a double bagel 6-0, 6-0 over Elliot Smego at the No. 5 position.
