Tough Day For Men's Tennis In 6-3 Loss to Tufts

MEDFORD, MA (March 26, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team dropped its first match after Spring Break 6-3 to Tufts University on Saturday, indoors at the Gantcher Center.

The Brewers (6-7) return home to host Drew University on Monday.  The Jumbos are now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the Spring heading into their NESCAC opener next Thursday at Connecticut College.

After falling behind 2-1 after doubles, Vassar only managed to win the top two singles matches -- both in three sets. In an extraordinary match at the No. 2 spot, Vassar's No. 7 nationally ranked Andrew Guzick and Andrew Lutz went toe-to-toe in three sets that were determinted by tie-breaks as Guzick pulled it out  6-77, 7-64, 7-62. Junior Ben Guzick dropped the first set but stormed back for a  3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Kai Victoria at No. 1 singles.
