CANTON, NY (February 4, 2011) -- Although junior
Caleb McGraw carried the Vassar College men's basketball team with 18 points, St. Lawrence University relied on a deep bench for a 77-56 win Friday night at Burkman Gymnasium.
The Saints shot 60 percent from the field with a 32-13 advantage in scoring off the bench.
The Brewers (3-16, 1-7) play Clarkson tomorrow, February 5, at 4:00 p.m. The Saints (9-9, 5-3) host RPI tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
The Brewers tied the game twice at 2-2 and 4-4 and hung within two scores until the Saints began to pull away with an 8-0 run for a 23-12 lead with 9:46 remaining. The Saints led 37-27 at intermission.
Vassar pulled within five points at 39-34 right out the break with a triple by McGraw and a pair of layups by sophomore guard
Jon Herzog. Vassar wouldn't come any closer to the lead as St. Lawrence inflated it to double figures, reaching a high of 22 points on two occasions inside the final five minutes.
McGraw added a team high four boards to his 18 points on 6-12 shooting. Sophomore forward
John Donnelly added 11 points.
St. Lawrence's Garret Sharlow led all scoring and rebounding with 16 points and five boards. Ralph Temgoua chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds.
