CLINTON, NY (February 18, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's basketball team shot a sizzling 10-of-16 (.625) from beyond the arc to hang close but Hamilton prevailed 63-46 Friday night in Liberty League action at Scott Field House.
The Brewers (3-21, 1-12) play their final game of the season Saturday, February 19 at Hobart at 4:00 p.m. The third place Continentals (15-8, 9-4) clinched a playoff berth with Friday nights win and host RPI tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in the final game of the regular season.
Hamilton countered Vassar's three-point proficiency with 60 percent shooting from the field (24-of-40) and a 32-6 points in the paint advantage.
Vassar tied the game once with a triple by sophomore guard
Jon Herzog at 10-10 with 13:09 remaining. Hamilton compiled a 17-5 run over the next eight minutes for a 27-15 lead behind six points by Greg Newton and five points by Matt Dean. The Continentals maintained the cushion and entered the break with a 33-21 lead.
Vassar trailed by over 10 points for the majority of the second period but managed to cut the lead to nine points on two occasions and eight points in one instance during a 10-4 run at 50-38 with 8:03 remaining. Sophomore forward
John Donnelly scored five points during the run and knock the trey to put Vassar within eight at 54-46 with 3:38 remaining.
The Liberty League's leading scorer, Pat Sullivan, strung together an old-fashioned three-point play and a three-pointer on the following two possessions to put the Continentals ahead 60-46 and close the door on a Brewer comeback.
Sullivan posted two game highs with 23 points (9-of-11) and six rebounds. Hans Schulte added 12 points and Greg Newton put up 11 points.

Caleb McGraw led Vassar with 12 points. Junior forward
Ethan Shanley tallied 11 points and a team high four rebounds. Herzog chipped in eight points and tied for a game high three assists.
