SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (November 5, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 166-131 win over Liberty League opponent Skidmore College on Saturday.

“It was a fun meet for everyone and we're starting to realize our versatility and strength,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. “It's huge for us to be 2-0 on both sides and we're building momentum heading into RPI this weekend.”

The Brewers (2-0) race RPI on the road this Saturday, November 12, at 1:00 p.m.

In diving, senior Christie Musket claimed the 1-meter event with a score of 206.51. “Christie had a strong performance on the boards today,” said Prater-Lee.

The 200-yard and 100-yard butterfly were strong events for the Brewers. In the 100-yard butterfly, Sydnie Alquist took first in 1:03.79, followed by Zoe Fullerton in third (1:06.75), and Robin Lam in fourth (1:08.16). Vassar posted two lifetime bests in a one-two finish in the 200-yard breaststroke as Caroline Shannon took first (2:31.28) and Juliana Struve was second (2:39.76).

Vassar freshman Olivia Harries owned the distance events with wins in the 500-yard freestyle (5:31.34) and 1000-yard freestyle (11:16.32). Kim Benenhaley took fifth in both events. “Kim had never swam these events before so it was a great effort,” said Prater-Lee.
