SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (October 8, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's soccer team held Skidmore College, ranked No. 5 in the East, to a scoreless first half, but conceded the game's lone goal on the first shot of the second half in a 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon in Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field.
Skidmore's Kelsey Yam delivered the eventual game winner in the 48th minute with a header on a cross from Christine Bellotti. Freshman
Lily Lanier made eight saves on Skidmore's 18 shots to keep Vassar in the game but the Brewer offense mustered a total of three shots.
The Brewers (6-5-1, 1-2-1 Liberty) are now in fifth place in the Liberty League and host Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday, October 14, at 4:00 p.m. and No. 2 nationally ranked William Smith College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The second-place Thoroughbreds (8-3, 3-2 Liberty) play Bard College at home on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Senior Meghan Sleezer made two saves to record her sixth shutout of the season for Skidmore.
