POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 14, 2011) -- In a Liberty League women's soccer contest that was played on two fields and delayed due to a thunder storm, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) prevailed 3-1 over Vassar College on a rainy Friday evening.

RIT fell behind 1-0 but scored three unanswered goals over two halves, controlling possession with an 18-6 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Vassar drops to seventh in the Liberty League with four points and hosts the No. 2 nationally ranked William Smith on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. RIT moves into sole possession of fourth place with nine points and continues its road trip with a 2:00 tilt against Bard College on Saturday.

The first half ended tied 1-1 but the Tigers grabbed a 2-1 lead early in the second half as Ashlene Potter skimmed a header to the far post on a cross from Rachel Bronson in the 48th minute.

Vassar struck first with a goal in the 26th minute on a header by senior captain Alix Zongrone on a corner kick from freshman Sarah Bourenane.

RIT evened the score 10 minutes later as Sierra Kiss passed the ball on the ground across the penalty area to Rachel Bromson for a low finish to the far post.

The game was delayed with 27:16 remaining due to thunder and lightning and after the storm passed, play was switched from Gordon Field to Weinberg Field.

Bromson put RIT up 3-1 in the 72nd minute with her second goal of the game on a header off a corner kick from Jaime Lewandowski.
