CHICOPEE, MA (October 12, 2011) – Three different players got into the scoring column to lead the Vassar College field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Elms College on Thursday evening at Leary Field.
The Brewers held a commanding 19-1 advantage in shots, and 9-2 edge in penalty corners. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak and leads Vassar into October Break with a 6-6 record. The Brewers will resume Liberty League play on October 21 with a home game against St. Lawrence at 4:00 p.m. Elms drops to 1-9 and next visits Wheelock College on October 15 at 3:00 p.m.
Led by junior midfielder
Rebecca Smith, who had six first half shots, the Brewers took a 1-0 lead when Smith tallied her third goal of the season in the 7th minute, a lead Vassar took into intermission.
Sophomore midfielder
Cameron Felt scored her fourth goal of the season in the game's 43rd minute to push the Vassar lead to 2-0 off an assist from senior midfielder
Maura McCarthy who had her initial shot blocked. Freshman forward
Dara Davis notched her second goal of the season off an assist from Smith at the 48th minute for a comfortable 3-0 Vassar lead.
The Brewers had 12 second half shots.
Elms junior goalie Alexandra Bonavita made five second half saves. Vassar sophomore goalie
Maggie Brelis didn't face any shots on goal during the contest.
