Men's Basketball Out-Rebounded In 84-48 Loss to Union

SCHENECTADY, NY (January 29, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's basketball team had a difficult night on the glass in an 84-48 loss to Union Saturday evening at the Viniar Athletic Center.

The Dutchmen dominated the boards in the contest with a 51-22 rebound advantage that created a 23-8 edge in second chance points. Union shot 44 percent and had only eight turnovers while Vassar hit 33 percent from the field.

The Brewers (3-15, 1-6 Liberty) square off against St. Lawrence University this Friday, February 4, at 8:00 p.m. and Clarkson on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The Dutchmen (1-6 Liberty) won for the first time in seven league games to improve to 9-9. Union hosts Skidmore Tuesday night, February 1 at 8 p.m.

The Dutchmen had a 24-11 lead 13:32 into the game, and led by as many as 20 in the first half at 38-18 with 30 seconds left. Union entered the locker room with a 17 point advantage, 38-21. Union went on a 23-10 run in the first 9:25 of the second half for a 63-30 advantage and led by as many as 38 (77-39 with 4:42 left).

Senior guard Drew Goldstein tallied a career high 30 points on 11-15 shooting along with seven rebounds. Keven Donohue scored 11 points and had a game high nine rebounds while Evan Croll and Keith Callies each tallied nine points with six rebounds.

Sophomore John Donnelly led all Brewers with 12 points and freshman Sam Rappaport added seven.
