CORTLAND, NY (September 4, 2010) – Playing in the Gold Pool of the Red Dragon Classic hosted by SUNY Cortland, the Vassar College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of hard-fought matches to SUNY New Paltz 3-1 (22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 22-25) and St. Lawrence 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, 13-15) on Saturday. 

The Brewers, 2-3, will return to action with a home contest against Sage College on Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. 

Against a tough New Paltz team, the Brewers lost in four sets. Sophomore hitter Chloe McGuire and junior hitter Amy Bavosa led the way respectively with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Sophomore setter Hilary Koenigs had 32 assists and senior libero Chelsea Mottern contributed 22 digs. 

In Vassar's fourth match of the Red Dragon Classic against Liberty League opponent St. Lawrence, the Brewers held a 2-1 lead in sets before losing in a tough fifth set, 15-13. McGuire led the offensive attack with 15 kills and Bavosa had 14. McGuire added 18 digs to her effort and Motern contributed 19. In her finest assist performance of the season, Koenigs had 45 set assists. 

For her performance, Bavosa was one of 12 players named to the All-Tournament Team.
