CAMBRIDGE, MA (September 25, 2010) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team ended the MIT Invitational on a high note, sweeping past DeSales University 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) in the Seventh Place match in the Silver Bracket.

Earlier in Saturday's competition, Vassar dropped a 3-1 decision to host MIT, 1-3 (25-27, 23-25, 25-19, 8-25).

The Brewers top the .500 mark at 8-7 and will travel to New York University on September 29 for a 7:00 p.m. match.

The Brewers rebounded from a tough opener against MIT to sweep DeSales convincingly. A strong defensive performance, anchored by nine kills from freshman Jessie Ditmore and eight each from senior Chelsea Mottern and sophomore Chloe McGuire, helped set the pace of the match.

Vassar broke out quickly, hitting .371 in the first set, connecting on 13 kills on 35 attempts without an error. In total, the Brewers made only seven errors on 113 attempts.

Sophomore Amy Bavosa had 10 kills, also getting support from McGuire's nine, sophomore Jessie Ditmore with seven and a career high six kills from freshman Rose Carman on a career high 20 attempts. The architect of Vassar's 39 kills was sophomore Hilary Koenigs who had 37 set assists.

The first three sets against MIT were highly competitive, but hitting woes plagued the Brewers in the final set, resulting in a 3-1 loss. Bavosa and McGuire paced Vassar with eight and six kills respectively. Koenigs had 26 set assists and Mottern led the defensive game with nine digs.
