POTSDAM, NY (September 25, 2010) – The Vassar College women's soccer team completed a road sweep of its first Liberty League weekend of the sesaon, rallying for three goals in the opening 12 minutes of the game in a 3-0 victory over Clarkson Saturday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

The Brewers move to 7-2-0, 2-0-0 on the season and square off at non-league opponent Bard College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The Golden Knights fall to 4-6-0, 0-2-0 , and return to non-league action next weekend when they host St. John Fisher.

Vassar established control of the game in the opening moments, scoring twice in the first four-plus minutes. On their first corner kick chance of the game just three minutes in, Elysa Greenberger sent the ball across the box, and senior captain Alison McManis headed it into the upper left corner for the 1-0 lead at 3:35.

A mere 34 seconds later, the Brewers struck again when Carolyn Demougeot rifled a shot from approximately 20 yards out to the upper left corner, assisted by McManis, at 4:09.

Only seven minutes later, Vassar scored again. The two teams volleyed the ball back and forth in the midfield for a few moments before the Brewers' McManis took control and sent a long pass over the Clarkson defense to Gavriella Kaplan on the far right side about 40 yards out. Kaplan dribbled in and beat Clarkson goalkeeper Stephanie Collins with a quick move at the top of the box before sending a soft groundball into the net.

The second half saw Vassar with a few chances on goal, but Collins was able to make the saves to keep Clarkson's hopes intact. However, the Knights scoring opportunities on the Vassar goal usually sailed high or wide, with Alyssa Dausman coming the closest when she skimmed the crossbar before the ball went out of bounds.

Demougeot scored her sixth goal of the season for a team leading 14 points. Kaplan added her third goal for a team-second 9 points. McManis is third with 7 points (2 goals, 3 assists).

Collins finished with four saves for Clarkson, while Lexi Hutton made one save in the first half. Ali Higgins played the second half for the Brewers and did not register a save. Hutton improves to 5-1 on the season. Vassar enjoyed a 14-6 edge in shots and a 4-2 lead in corner kick chances.
