Box Score

MADISON, NJ (September 19, 2010) -- The Vassar College men's soccer team scored goals in the final two minutes of each half to defeat Drew University 2-0 Sunday afternoon. Freshman Adam McCabe scored his first collegiate goal in the first half and junior Harrison Freund scored his second goal in as many games in the second half.

The Brewers (5-2) kick-off Liberty League play at home on Gordon Field this weekend, hosting St. Lawrence on Friday, September 24 at 4:00 p.m. and Clarkson on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Drew (6-1) ends their unbeaten streak and will play Elizabethtown College on the road Wednesday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m.

After 43 minutes of physical, scoreless play, the Brewers opened up the scorebooks as Ethan Hallberg lofted a ball over the top of the Drew defense. McCabe chested the pass out of the air and one-timed a volley into the top corner from 18 yards out.

The Brewer defense maintained the narrow lead through the second half until the 88:30 mark when the Brewers added an insurance goal with a beautiful series of passes in the opposing box. Junior midfielder Ross Macklin crossed a ball to freshman Evan Seltzer inside the box. Seltzer passed across the box to Freund on the opposite side for a tap-in goal from six yards.

With his second assist of the season, Seltzer leads the Brewers with eight points (three goals). With his second goal, Freund is second on the team with five points (one assist).

Jeff Rogers made two saves in the loss for Drew. Vassar's freashman goalkeeper Ryan Grimme notched four saves in his second shutout and improves to 2-2 on the season.
