Eastern Connecticut Hands Vassar First Loss 2-1

PURCHASE, NY (September 12, 2010) -- Although the Vassar College women's soccer team struck first against Eastern Connecticut State on day two of the Valiant Classic Sunday afternoon, the undefeated Brewers surrendered two second half goals to drop their first game of the season.

The Brewers (3-1) meet Stevens on the road this Wednesday September 15 at 5:00 p.m. On the same date, the Warriors (3-0-1) play Fitchburg State on the road at 7:00 p.m.

Senior captain Allison McManis put the Brewers on top 1-0 in the 25th minute with her first goal of the season, a tap-in on the goalline following sophomore Keiko Kurita's free kick off the post.

The Warriors evened the score soon after intermission with a free kick in the 50th minute that led to Daniela Marchitto's tip goal in front of the net.

Kelly Wallace scored the unassisted go-ahead goal from 18 yards out on the right wing at the 69:58 mark to deliver the 2-1 lead for the Warriors.

Eastern Connecticut's Theresa Pagnozzi made one save and picked up her first win of the season. Vassar's Lexi Hutton made two saves and evens her record at 1-1.
